Type species: Piezonotus javanus Faust, 1896 , by original designation.

Description. Integument with scattered appressed scales; intervals with more or less distinct granules bearing long, suberect bristles. Head with angulate transverse sulcus separating rostral base, passing ventrad along anterior margin of eye. Eyes convex; separated from apex of prothorax by ca. 0.8 X length of eye. Profile ( Fig. 40g ) anteriorly with shallow constriction. Rostrum ca as long as wide (0.98–1.10 X), sides subparallel; dorsum at its narrowest part ca. as wide as antennal scape; medially with longitudinal furrow or simple; apical declivity distinct, punctate, with sparse setae, without scales; dorsal profile subangulate. Antenna. Scape slender; in cross-section subrotund; subapically clavate; punctate-rugose; with suberect bristles, with or without sparse elongate scales. Funicle with article 2 slightly shorter (0.8 X) than article 1. Pronotum ca. as long as wide; coarsely punctate-granulate. Metanepisternum narrow, anteriorly nude, posteriorly obscured by scales. Elytra subovate, with 10 striae; in some males ( T. javanus (Faust) , T. humeralis (Heller)) dorsally flattened.Legs. Protibia ventrally simple, not denticulate. Venter. Procoxae approximate, separated by 0.15 X procoxal diameter; distance to apex 0.3 X distance to base of prothorax. Mesoventral process trapezoid, 1.17–1.40 X as long as posterior width. Abdomen. Male ventrites 1–2 ca. 2.0 X longer than ventrites 3–5, medially concave; male ventrites 3–5 of T. javanus (Faust) and T. humeralis (Heller) with dense pubescence of soft erect hairs. Female ventrites 1–2 convex, ca. 2.5 X longer than ventrites 3–5, evenly convex; female ventrites 3–5 retracted, hardly visible in ventral aspect; female ventrite 3 forming sharp ridge with fringe of long erect setae, ventrites 4–5 thinly chitinized. Genitalia. Penis ( Figs. 37b , 38b , 39b ) with apodeme firmly attached to body. Endophallus long. Transfer apparatus flagelliform, relatively short, ca. 0.6 X as long as body of penis.

Notes. This genus is closely related to Piezonotus Schoenherr. Currently , four species are known from Java, Bali and Flores .
