Type Locality: N Namibia, C Koakoveld, Otjitundua.
Vernacular Names: Damara Ground Squirrel.
Distribution: W Namibia, S Angola, restricted to the Kaokoland escarpment of Namibia and Angola as far north as 14°10'S 16°0'E.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Subgenus Geosciurus . Distinction from X. inauris supported by minor chromosomal differences reported by Robinson et al. (1986).
