Basionym: Cyrtogonellum minimum Y.T.Hsieh in Hsieh & Li (1989: 17). Type:— CHINA. Guizhou: Ninggu , in fissuris rupium, 29 August 1966, P. S . Wang 1155 ( holotype PE) .
Heterotypic synonyms: — Cyrtomium fraxinellum (Christ) Christ var. inaequale Christ (1902: 264) View in CoL ; Cyrtogonellum inaequale (Christ) Ching (1938: 331) . Type:— CHINA. Guizhou: Qing-gay, roches escarpes du Mont-du-lion, 24 October 1898, Bodinier s.n. ( holotype, herbarium unknown).
Although Cyrtogonellum inaequale (Christ) Ching (1938) is older than C. minimum Y.T.Hsieh in Hsieh & Li (1989: 17), the epithet “ inaequale ” is blocked by Polystichum inaequale Von Keyserling (1873: 44) View in CoL when this species is transferred to Polystichum View in CoL . This species therefore has to be named P. minimum (Y.T.Hsieh) Li Bing Zhang.
This species is currently in the genus Cyrtogonellum Ching , which is unambiguously resolved as part of Polystichum View in CoL based on molecular data ( Li et al. 2008, Liu et al. 2010, Zhang & He 2010, 2011, 2012).
This species occurs in Chongqing (Jinfo Shan), northwestern Guangxi (Tian’e) and Guizhou, China .
