Type Species: Mus tarsalis Philippi 1900

Species and subspecies: 1 species:

Species Irenomys tarsalis ( Philippi 1900)

Discussion: Sigmodontinae incertae sedis. Usually grouped with phyllotines ( Olds and Anderson, 1989; Vorontsov, 1959), a tribal affiliation supported by cladistic analyses of morphological traits ( Braun, 1993; Steppan, 1995) but not of cytochrome b sequences (D’Elía et al., 2003; Smith and Patton, 1999).
