Identification. For the diagnostic characters see L. dolorosa .

Published local records. The species was recorded from Jugla and Sigulda [Segewold] surroundings ( Latvia) by Lindberg (1932), Augšdaugavas municipality (the former Daugavpils District) ( Barševskis 1993), the northern part of the former Eastern Prussia (Königsberg, Zehlau, Insterburg) ( Bercio & Folwaczny 1979) without detailed faunistic information. The species was considered not rare and distributed throughout Lithuania excluding in the west ( Pileckis & Monsevičius 1997). Detailed faunistic information was provided on the occurrence of this species in Rīga ( Mīlenders & Varzinska 1979), Augšdaugavas municipality (Ilgas, Viški), Krāslava municipality ( Barševskis 1997); Alytus ( Zajančkauskas & Pileckis 1968), Jonava ( Ferenca 2006) Kaunas, Varėna (as Limnobaris pusio Boheman, 1844 ( Tamutis 2003)) and Trakai ( Pileckis 1960) administrative units.

General distribution. This species is widely distributed throughout the Palaearctic Region, from the British Islands and Spain to Krasnoyarsk Krai ( Russia) and western Mongolia ( Legalov 2020; Alonso-Zarazaga et al. 2023). The northern boundary of the distribution range extends towards 67°N in Sweden and Finland (Lundberg & Gustafsson 1995; Rassi et al. 2015); the southern range extent passes through Italy, Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, Kirgizstan, and north-western China ( Prena et al. 2014b; Alonso-Zarazaga et al. 2023). In northern Africa, Limnobaris t-album is reported from Egypt ( Alonso-Zarazaga et al. 2023).

Notes on biology. Due to the numerous misidentifications and confusion with Limnobaris dolorosa , the available knowledge on the life history of this species is limited ( Prena et al. 2014b). Adults were observed on Carex acutiformis in Germany ( Prena et al. 2014b). Previous records of plant species such as Carex rostrata , C. vesicaria , Cladium mariscus , and Schoenoplectus lacustris as possible hosts for L. t-album ( Burakowski et al. 1995; Yunakov et al. 2018) require further confirmation. Larvae develop at base of stems and rhizomes of host plants ( Smreczyński 1974), overwinter, and pupate within tissues. New generation of adults emerges in April and May ( Burakowski et al. 1995).

Local occurrence and phenology. Limnobaris t-album is likely widespread throughout the study region likewise L. dolorosa , however, the number of known records is significantly lower. Altogether it was recorded from 25 administrative territories: nine in Latvia, 13 in Lithuania, and three from KR ( Figure 2 View Figure 2 : B). The adults were collected in similar habitats as L. dolorosa , from Carex spp. Maximum number of adults recorded in May, the earliest record: April 7, the latest: October 7.
