Remarks. This widespread southern African species is phenotypically variable, with the ground colour ranging from roseate-brown to greyish-brown. Both extremities of the colour-range have been described, the testaceous form as Lasiocampa prompta Walker, 1855 (holotype male from “Caffraria” examined in NHMUK) and a short while later, the greyish form as Lasiocampa plusioides Walker, 1862 (syntype female from “Natal” examined in OUMNH). These two taxa were treated as synonymous by Aurivillius (1927) and Pinhey (1975) whilst Vári et al. (2002) and Krüger (2020) considered the latter as a subspecies of the former; it is however clear that these two taxa are conspecific and the synonymy is revived thus: Sena prompta ( Walker, 1855) = Lasiocampa plusioides Walker, 1862 syn. rev. (junior subjective synonymy).
