Ogdoecosta mexicana ( Champion 1893) View in CoL
( Figs 14 View FIGURE 14 A–H)
Chelymorpha mexicana Champion 1893:155 .
Male. Length 10–11 mm, width 6.5–7.5 mm (n=15). Brown or yellow, glabrous, shiny.
HEAD. Surface black, with rugose punctures; frons with long and scattered setae. Genal surface pubescent, with sparse punctures. Interocular width 2 times diameter of eyes. Antennae short, not exceeding pronotal base; antennomere III longer than IV, antennomere I longer than XI. Clypeus sub–trapezoidal in shape, 1.5–2 times wider than long, surface with coarse punctures. Labrum 2–3 times wider than long; surface smooth.
THORAX. Pronotum 2 times wider than long, surface with two small spots; anterior margin emarginated, margination U-shaped; base sinuous; hind angles sharp and produced behind with weak and sparse punctures; explanate margin with coarse punctures; pronotal disc with a longitudinal groove. Scutellum triangular, surface smooth, black. Elytra widest at middle, surface glabrous, with six or seven spots arranged with two near base, three in transverse medial line (posterior-most one smallest, near apex), one on sutural margin close to base; punctures coarse; humeri rounded, impunctate. Prosternal process glabrous, with shallow groove in hind part, apex rounded. Mesosternal process deeply notched.
ABDOMEN. Ventrites surface smooth, black, short and scattered setae only in lateral margins. Aedeagus lengt no more than 1.5 mm, apex acute (Fig. 20 D).
Female. Similar to male. Length 11.8–13 mm, width 7–8 mm (n=15). Interocular width 2 times diameter of eyes. Clypeus 1.5–2 times wider than long. Labrum 2–3 times wider than long. Pronotum 2 times wider than long. Spermatheca well sclerotized (Fig. 20 D), over 2 times longer than wide, apex rounded; without velum; spermathecal duct very coiled.
Comparative note. This species is distinguished from O. biannularis and O. fasciata by the length of the pronotum. The prosternal process is moderately grooved; apex rounded. Specifically, the adults are distinguished from those of O. fasciata by the smaller spots on the pronotum and the lack of a fascia on the elytra (compare Figs 9 View FIGURE 9 and 14 View FIGURE 14 ). Some specimens of O. biannularis exhibit a similar pattern of spots on the elytra and pronotum, however O. mexicana has not velum in the spermatheca.
Host plant. Unknown.
Known distribution. México: Guanajuato, Querétaro (Borowiec & Świętojańska 2015).
