Ogdoecosta fasciata ( Boheman 1856) View in CoL
( Figs 9 View FIGURE 9 A–C)
Chelymorpha fasciata Boheman 1856:77
Male. Length 10 mm, width 7–8.5 mm (n=5). Black, glabrous.
HEAD. Surface black, rugose with punctures; front with scattered setae. Genal surface with coarse punctures, short setae. Interocular width 2 times diameter of eyes. Antennae short, not exceeding pronotal base; antennomere III longer than IV, antennomere I shorter than XI. Clypeus sub-trapezoidal in shape, over 2 times wider than long; surface with short scattered setae. Labrum 2–3 times wider than long; surface smooth.
THORAX. Pronotum 2–3 times wider than long; surface glabrous and brown; anterior margin emarginated, margination U-shaped; hind angles sharp and produced behind with few and scattered punctures; explanate margin with fine punctures, pronotal disc with a distinctive longitudinal groove; base sinuous. Prosternum completely smooth, glabrous. Scutellum triangular, surface smooth, black. Elytral surface glabrous; color brown with two long basal spots present, one covering humeri, one close to sutural margin and with a curved line medially; punctures present, moderately coarse and proximate; humeri rounded, surface glabrous, impunctate, black. Prosternal process glabrous, with basal groove, apex truncated. Mesosternal process notched.
ABDOMEN. Ventrites surface smooth and glabrous, black. Aedeagus length no more than 1.5 mm, apex rounded ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 E).
Female. Similar to male. Length 12.5–13.9 mm, width 7.8–8.2 mm (n=10). Interocular width 2 times diameter of eyes; clypeus over 2 times wider than long. Labrum 2–3 times wider than long. Pronotum 2–3 times wider than long. Spermatheca well sclerotized ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 E), over 2 times longer than wide, apex truncated, extended in dorsal view; spermathecal duct very coiled.
Comparative note. This species is distinguished from O. biannularis by its pronotal disc with fine punctures; explanate margin with fine punctures. The spermathecal velum is extended. Ogdoecosta mexicana resembles O. fasciata but is distinguished by its lack of the velum. Although individuals of some species are polymorphic, the pronotal spots in O. mexicana are smaller than those in O. fasciata .
Host plant. Unknown.
Known distribution. México: Estado de México and Jalisco ( Borowiec & Świętojańska 2016).
