Tremella nostoc Linnaeus , Species Plantarum 2: 1157. 1753.

"Habitat in Pratis post pluvias." RCN: 8258.

Lectotype (Irvine & Pentecost in Spencer & al. in Taxon, in press): [icon] " Tremella terrestris sinuosa, pinguis & fugax" in Dillenius, Hist. Musc.: 52, t. 10, f. 14. 1741. - Voucher: Herb. Dillenius ( OXF) .

Current name: Nostoc commune Vaucher View in CoL ( Nostocaceae ).

Note: In the absence of any material in LINN, Drouet (in Beih. Nova Hedwigia 57: 25. 1978) designated " Tremella terrestris sinuosa, pinguis & fugax" in Herb. Dillenius ( OXF) as a neotype. However, the existence of original material for the name means that Drouet’s neotype choice is contrary to Art. 9.11 (see Spencer & al. in Taxon, in press).
