Coelidia angulata View in CoL , sp. nov.

( Plate 3C, Figs. 149–155)

Length. Male 9.70 mm; female unknown.

External morphology. Large, slender species. General color black, forewings with numerous small, yellow spots on veins, large irregular shaped spots scattered on middle, apex translucent; mesonotum with broad, longitudinal yellow line on middle; pronotum with 5 pale longitudinal lines on surface, middle line expanded basally, broad yellow line on upper lateral margins; crown with yellow markings laterally and apically on each side of middle, yellow medial line with small spots on each side; eyes translucent; face ivory, small black spot below eyes ( Plate 3C). Head small, distinctly narrower than pronotum, anterior margin broadly angulate; crown broad, about 1/ 3 wider than width of eyes, produced distally about 1/3 of entire median length, distinctly elevated, lateral margins parallel, carinate, disk depressed medially; eyes large, elongate-ovoid; pronotum large, median length about 1/3 longer than crown, surface bullated; mesonotum very large, about 1/3 longer than pronotum; forewings typical; clypeus long, broad at apical half, narrow and truncate at base, with prominent, incomplete, median longitudinal carina not reaching base; clypelllus short, about ½ as long as clypeus, very narrow, lateral margins expanded at apical 1/3.

Male genitalia. Pygofer narrow with long, robust caudodorsal process, very long, needlelike caudoventral process ( Fig. 149); right subgenital plate long, broad, outer lateral margin expanded in distal 1/3, profusely setose ( Fig. 150); style very long and robust, about as long as aedeagus, basal 1/6 abruptly curved at right angle ( Figs. 151, 152); aedeagus in lateral view long, tubular, broadly sinuate, with subapical 1/5 strongly recurved dorsally, sharply pointed apically, small secondary spine directed ventrally, gonopore subapical on dorsal surface ( Fig. 153), in dorsal view shaft straight, base expanded, apex direct basally ( Fig. 154); connective broadly Y-shaped, disk large, membranous, basal stem absent ( Fig. 155).

Material examined. Holotype male. COLOMBIA: Putamayo , PNN La Paya Cabaña Viviano, 0º7’S.– 74º56’W., 320 m., pitfall trap, 4/18/02–4/21/02, R. Cobete leg., M.3252 ( IAHC). GoogleMaps

Etymology. The name is descriptive for the highly unusual right angle configuration of the base of the style.

Remarks. This species is nearest to C. nigra (Spångberg) ( Nielson, 1982) and can be separated by the narrow caudodorsal pygofer process, broad subgenital plate and the configuration of the apical aedeagal spines.
