Remarks: Christiansen & Bellinger (1980, p. 682) wrote that “most previous Nearctic records of I. palustris actually must be bimus or tricolor , though I. palustris probably occurs as an introduced form”. The same was stated by Fjellberg (1986, p. 2388): “Older arctic records of Isotomurus palustris (Müll.) are probably all Isotomurus tricolor ”. On the other hand, “ I. stuxbergi from Taimyr and specimens from Devon Island which were identified by Babenko (1994) as I. tricolor ( Packard, 1873) , are hardly separable” ( Babenko & Fjellberg 2006, p. 72). Specimens from Devon and Ellesmere Islands, having clearly ciliated setae, are more similar to I. palustroides Folsom than to I. tricolor as it was defined by Christiansen & Bellinger (1980). In other words, many, if not all of the above records are probably erroneous and much more study is necessary before a successful taxonomic revision of the Nearctic representatives of this genus can be made.

General distribution: unclear due to confusion with related species, described from Europe.
