Remarks: Practically all of the above Canadian records appear to be erroneous. Christiansen & Bellinger (1980, p. 711) wrote there are “no valid Nearctic records” of D. violacea . Synonymization of violacea with inupikella ( Fjellberg 2007) slightly modified this statement. Now the known distributional range of the species encompasses Alaska and northern Palaearctic westward to Kolguev Island in the Barents Sea (Babenko et al. 2017).

General distribution: Western Nearctic and Eastern Palaearctic.
