Paraleyrodes Quaintance View in CoL View at ENA
Paraleyrodes Quaintance, 1909: 169 View in CoL –170. Type species Aleurodes perseae Quaintance, 1900: 32 – 33, by original designation and monotypy.
GENERIC DIAGNOSIS. Paraleyrodes View in CoL comprises species that are physically much smaller than most other members of the Aleurodicinae , adults and puparia often less than 1 mm in length. Puparia: abdomen with 5 or 6 pairs of compound pores, of which the anteriormost 1 or 2 pairs are much smaller than the remaining 4 abdominal pairs and the cephalic pair ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 5 – 7 ); two pairs of cicatrices present on thorax (scars of compound pores in thirdinstar, one shown in Fig. 5 View FIGURES 5 – 7 ); a pair of submedian cephalic setae present, but corresponding thoracic setal pairs absent; outer submargin with a row of 14 pairs of hairlike setae, including the nominal caudal pair; lingula extending beyond boundary of vasiform orifice, bearing 4 stout setae ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 5 – 7 ). Adults: females have 4 articulated antennal segments, the distal 2 segments sparsely provided with small, rounded, sensoria; males have only 3 articulated antennal segments, the very long distal segment ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 2 ) heavily sensoriate and often appearing reddish in life; males have complex aedeagal apices (e.g.
Figs 8–16 View FIGURES 8 – 16 ) which are speciesdiagnostic (almost all other known whiteflies have simple aedeagal apices).
