Occurs from Trinidad to Uruguay ( Govaerts et al. 2010) and is widely distributed in Brazil ( Sobral et al. 2010).

Trees and shrubs 3–5 m tall. This species differs from other Myrcia species by leaves 5–7 × 2.5 –3.5 cm, a flat or raised midvein on the adaxial lamina surface, acuminate and unequal calyx lobes, 4 larger ( 2 mm long), 1 shorter ( 1 mm long), a glabrous hypanthium and globose fruit.
