Occurs from Trinidad to Paraguay ( Govaerts et al. 2010) and is widely distributed in Brazil ( Sobral et al. 2010).

Trees and shrubs 3–8 m tall. This species differs from other Myrcia species by having leaves 3.0–7.5 × 1.5–3.5 cm, a flat or raised midvein on the adaxial lamina surface, lanceolate bracts, linear bracteoles, rounded and unequal calyx lobes, 3 larger ( 2 mm long), 2 shorter ( 1 mm long), a 3-locular ovary and subglobose fruits.
