Endemic to the Atlantic Forest ( Sobral et al. 2009) from the northeast to nouthern regions of Brazil ( Sobral et al. 2010). In the northeast, it is recorded from the States of Bahia ( Sobral et al. 2010). New records of this species for State of Pernambuco, Alagoas and Sergipe are presented here.
Trees 4–6m tall. This species differs from Marlierea tomentosa in having smaller leaves (7–12 × 3–5 cm) and glabrous fruit; it differs from other Myrcia species by the calyx closed in the bud, tearing open irregularly.
Selected specimens: BRAZIL. Pernambuco:, Recife, Jardim Botânico , 25.X.1967, fl., O.C. Lira 120-67 et al. (UFP); Parque Ecológico de Dois Irmãos , 15.XII.1988, fl., M.A. Cruz 72 et al.
