Endemic to the Atlantic Forest from the northeast to southeast regions of Brazil in the States of Bahia and Minas Gerais ( Govaerts et al. 2010, Sobral et al. 2010). New records of this species for State of Pernambuco and Sergipe are presented here.

Trees and shrubs 4–5 m tall. Morphologically similar to Myrcia bergiana but differs by having shorter leaves (3–4 cm long), rotund calyx lobes and a glabrous hypanthium; it differs from other Myrcia species by having ferruginous trichomes, a flat or raised midvein on the adaxial lamina surface and subglobose fruits.
