Endemic to the Atlantic Forest ( Sobral et al. 2009) in the northeastern and southeastern regions of Brazil ( Proença & Sobral 2006, Sobral et al. 2010).
Trees and shrubs 3–7 m tall. Morphologicaly similar to Myrcia densa , but differs by having larger leaves (5–10 cm long), acute calyx lobes and a pilose hypanthium; it differs from other Myrcia species by having a non-sulcate midvein on the adaxial lamina surface, ferruginous trichomes and globose fruits.
