Widely distributed in tropical America, from Trinidad to Bolivia and Brazil where it is found in the North and Northeast regions ( Landrum 1986, Govaerts et al. 2010, Sobral et al. 2010).
Trees ca. 6 m tall. This species differs from species of Psidium by the unconstricted ovary and differs from Campomanesia dichotoma by having solitary opposite flowers, a glabrous hypanthium and bracts elliptic.
