Khaleijomyces marinus Abdel-Wahab View in CoL , sp. nov. ( Figure 2 View FIGURE 2 )
MycoBank ID: MB 823892; Facesoffungi number: FoF 03931.
Etymology: From the Latin marinus = marine, in reference to the habitat of the species.
Ascomata 110–175 μm high (excluding neck), 100–115 μm in diameter, globose to subglobose, hyaline to yelloworange to reddish-brown in color, superficial to immersed, coriaceous, single, ostiolate with long neck, surrounded by dense brown, septate hyphae. Neck 120–175 μm long, 40–50 μm wide, hyaline to apricot in color, periphysate. Peridium 20–37 μm thick, two-layered; outer layer 5–17 μm thick forming a textura epidermoidea, apricot to reddish-brown in color; inner layer 15–20 μm thick forming a textura angularis, hyaline, consists of thick-walled cells. Hamathecium consists of pseudoparenchyma that fills the young ascomatal venter and breaks down into catenophyses that deliquesce early. Asci 60–98 × 12–16 μm (x = 78 × 14 μm, n = 20), 8–spored, thin-walled, without apical apparatus, cymbiform to fusiform, persistent, developing from ascogenous tissue at the base of the ascomata. Ascospores 16–26 × 6–8 μm (x = 22 × 7 μm, n = 50), ellipsoidal to fusiform with rounded ends, hyaline, straight or slightly curved, smooth-walled, 2-3 seriate in asci, unicellular when young, becoming 1–4 septate, light brown to brown in color in older specimens and longer in size 21–26 × 7–8 μm (x = 24 × 7 μm, n = 15). Asexual morph: Undetermined.
Material examined:— SAUDI ARABIA, Arabian Gulf, Dammam City, El Khobar sea front, on driftwood in the intertidal zone, 28 March 2013, M.A. Abdel-Wahab (CBS H–22564, holotype), ex-type living culture MD 1348 (Department of Botany and Microbiology, College of Science, King Saud University culture collection).
