Peromyia almensis Berest, 1989 View in CoL —new junior synonym of Peromyia caricis (Kieffer, 1901)
Material studied: holotype male and one (slide number 33- 86 -v-1) of three paratype males, with the data specified in the original description ( Berest 1989).
My re-examination of the two type specimens revealed that P. almensis is identical with P. caricis . The genitalia of the neotype of P. caricis were illustrated by Jaschhof (2001: fig. 11). Berest’s (1989) differential diagnosis of P. almensis makes reference to P. borealis (Felt, 1920) , a species that in my opinion is only distantly related to P. caricis (see Jaschhof 1998).
