Type Locality: E Tanzania, Mbete (06°52’S, 37°41’E, as per W. Verheyen et al., 2003:41), near Morogoro, on flanks of the Uluguru Range (Kitundu Forest), 1540 m. GoogleMaps
Vernacular Names: Tanzanian Dasymys.
Distribution: Known only from upland plains in the Morogoro region of EC Tanzania, 400-1600 m (W. Verheyen et al., 2003).
Discussion: Member of the D. incomtus species complex. Defined by discriminant function analyses using craniometric traits as well as complete mtDNA cytochrome b sequences in comparison with samples of D. rufulus and the bentleyae portion of the D. incomtus species complex (W. Verheyen et al., 2003).
