The definition of Nothrus View in CoL by Fujikawa (1999) is comprehensive but does not fully differentiate Nothrus View in CoL from Novonothrus View in CoL . Therefore, Nothrus View in CoL is redefined below.

Apex of rostrum U-shaped, consisting of lateral projections extending anteriomedially and median oval region of lighter cuticle with slit-like median incision. Paired lateral areas of lighter cuticle absent. Prodorsum alveolate. Exobothridial seta present; without alveolus of ex 2 or lateral prodorsal setae. Bothridial seta long, setiform, smooth or sparingly barbed, never flagelliform or strongly recurved. Bothridial rim rounded. Notogastral setae 16 pairs in adult and nymphs; setae h 2 and p 1 occasionally longer than others in adults and immatures. Suprapleural scissure present. Notogaster with lateral or circumdorsal furrows. Hysterosoma typically dorsoventrally flattened. Epimeral plates separated along sternal line in immatures; at least epimeral plates III and IV separated in adults. Genital plates entire, not divided transversely, each with seven setae arranged in median file and two (typically g 4 and g 8) in lateral file. Aggenital setae absent; two pairs of anal setae; three pairs of adanal setae. Epimeral plates I with 3–9 setae; II with 3–6; III with 3–6; IV with 3–7.
