This species was described from India ( Shumsher 1946), and is widespread from Thailand ( Murai 2000) to Phillipines (Bhatti 1990). It is considered an economicaly important pest of Solanaceae and Cucurbitaceae and a vector of plant diseases. Individuals of C. claratris can be distinguished from C. cameroni by extensively shaded brown legs and brown antennal segment V, in contrast to yellow legs and antennal segment V ( Mound & Nickle 2009).
