Types housed in the Schoenherr collection (NHRS). Male lectotype in good condition ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ) (body length: 12.6 mm) here designated, pinned from right elytron, and bearing the labels: “ Paratypus ” [red printed], “Ins. Rhodus, Hedenborg” [handwritten], “ Lectotypus (male), Larinus hedenborgi Boh., L. Gültekin des. 2006”. The male paralectotype (body length: 11.0 mm) here designated, pinned from right elytron which shows a second hole, with elytra hardly divaricated, and bearing the labels: “ Paratypus ” [red printed], “Ins. Rhodus, Hedenborg” [handwritten] “ Paralectotypus (male), Larinus hedenborgi Boh., L. Gültekin des. 2006”.
There are five additional specimens (2 males, 3 females) in the general collection. One of the females bearing the labels: “Rhodes” [printed], “Hedenborg” [printed], “ Typus ” [red printed] probably come from Hedenborg collection after the description, thus it is not considered to be a syntype because it lacks of the original handwritten label “Ins. Rhodus, Hedenborg” mentioned above. The other four not typical specimens bear the handwritten labels “Sen.…” [illegible], “Hedenborg” [printed], and “ Larinus hedenborgi Boh., L. Gültekin det. 2006”.
Remarks. L. hedenborgi is closely related to L. onopordi , differing from the latter by the apical part of aedeagus, small body size and different life history. Larvae of L. onopordi develop within the flowerheads of Echinops sphaerocephalus L. in northeastern Anatolia ( Gültekin, 2006b), whereas L. hedenborgi develop inside in the stem capsules.
