(gures 8–11) Otostigmus simplex Chamberlin, 1913: 75 . Otostigmus (O.) simplex: Attems, 1930: 153 .
Material examined
Two syntypes, labelled Otostigmus simplex Ch TC- 639 Type? Paratype? Chamberlin wrote: ‘locality not de nitely known; but probably India’.
Description
(Chamberlin’s data in parentheses where appropriate). Length, specimen (spm) 1, 50 mm; spm 2, 37 mm. Spiracles present on segments 7 and 8. Antennomeres 18 (19), basal three glabrous dorsally (gure 8). Forcipular coxosternal tooth plates with 51 4 or 51 5 teeth, process of forcipular femoroid with two small inner teeth (gure 9). The basal sulci forming an obtuse angle of about 115ss.
Tergites with paramedian sutures complete from 4, marginate from 8, without keels or spines but with an uneven surface, possibly due to the specimens having dried out at some time. Last tergite with or without slight posterior median depression.
Sternites smooth, without or some with very short anterior paramedian sutures. Otostigmus species of R. V. Chamberlin 1691 Last sternite with sides clearly converging posteriorly and hind border concave (gure 10).
Coxopleural process long (gure 10) with two end spines, one subapical, one lateral, no dorsal spines. End leg with three ventrolateral spines, two to three medials, two dorsomedials and a corner spine (gure 11).
Spm 1 with two tarsal spines on legs 1 and 2, legs 3–8 missing, one tarsal spine on 9– 19, 20 and 21 without. Spm 2 with two tarsal spines on legs 1–6, one on legs 7–19, 20 and 21 without (between rst 7 and 12 pairs of legs with two tarsal spines).
Remarks
The specimens have spiracles on segments 7 and 8 and therefore belong to the genus Rhysida , not Otostigmus . They are typical Rhysida longipes longipes (Newport, 1845) .
