Eleodes arcuata Casey, 1884: 47 . Lectotype female, here designated, labeled “Ariz.”, in Casey’ s hand “ E. arcuata Cas. type”, type USNM 46742 (NMNH). Paralectotype 1, female, paratype USNM 46742 (NMNH). Casey 1890: 395; Blaisdell 1909: 116, pl. 4, fig. 25, pl. 11, fig. 19, 1942: 138.

Eleodes sonorae Champion, 1884: 85 , tab. iv, fig. 13 [misspelled as Elaeodes ]. Holotype male, in type box (TNHM), N. Sonora, Mexico, Morrison, specimen figured. New synonymy. Champion 1892: 516.

Remarks. Both the Casey and Champion descriptions were dated 1884. Fortunately, the months of publication were clearly stated on the two publications. It was determined that the Casey name was published in August and that of Champion in December, thus establishing priority.

Distribution. This species is common in southeastern Arizona, southwestern New Mexico, and the adjacent Mexican states of Chihuahua and Sonora. Several hundred specimens were studied.
