Material examined. South China Sea. 1 female, Cl 3.60 mm; 1 female, Cl 3.64 mm; 1 male, Cl 4.13 mm; 1 male, Cl 4.45 mm, MBM 150177, fine sand, CNChi2, Nansha Islands, 38 m, AT, 19 May 1990.
Distribution. South China Sea; Ile des Neufs [Noeufs Island], Amirante Islands; Ambon; off Mage-jima W of Tanegashima, S. Kyushu; Ryukyu Islands; Kei Islands; Banda Sea; Sibuyan Sea, off N Luzon; Tuamotu Archipelago; French Polynesia; Madagascar and Aldabra; Mauritius.
Remarks. The four specimens agree with the description and illustrations of Baba (1969). This species is similar to S. acroporae Baba, 1972 . Two obvious differences between these two species are: S. edwardsii has no spine on second abdominal segment whereas S. acroporae has two; and the basal article of antennule of the former has five spines whereas the latter has four.
