Current status: Cottocomephorus comephoroides ( Berg, 1900) ( Berg, 1949; Bogdanov, 2019).
Counts: D1 7, D2 17, A 20, P 20, C 37, V 5, vert. 39 (12 abdominal, 27 caudal), three-pairs of pleural ribs.
Diagnosis: body and head are compressed from the sides, like in pelagic fish; first dorsal fin is high, length of its rays is comparable with rays of second dorsal fin; there is a noticeable gap between dorsal fins; there are transverse yellow stripes on pectoral fin.
Proportional measurements as percentages of standard length of largest syntype (ZIN 11531, 119.6 mm): predorsal length 49.5, preanal length 76.5, maximum body depth 18.1, length of caudal peduncle 9.7, depth of caudal peduncle 3.9, length of first dorsal-fin base 12.4, length of second dorsal-fin base 35.6, length of anal-fin base 32.0, length of longest first dorsal-fin ray 11.2, length of longest second dorsal-fin ray 12.9, length of longest anal-fin ray 13.0, pectoral-fin length 36.8, pelvic-fin length 11.0, distance between first and second dorsal fins 9.6, head length 30.8, postorbital length 14.3, head depth 17.1, head width 16.6, eye horizontal diameter 7.1, snout length 9.0, interorbital width 6.0, upper jaw length 14.2, interbranchial width 0.8, length of gill slit 13.7.
