Taxonomy. Promops davisoni Thomas, 1921 View in CoL ,
“Chosica, 2700 [= 8323 m],” Lima, Peru.
Promops davisoni might be synonymous with P. centralis based on molecular data, but additional research is needed to clarify this. Monotypic.
Distribution. W Ecuador, W Peru, and NW Chile. View Figure
Descriptive notes. Head-body 54-74 mm, tail 49-58 mm, ear 12-18 mm, hindfoot 8-12 mm, forearm 46-52 mm; weight 10-23 g. Dorsal fur of Davison’s Mastiff Bat is ¢. 8 mm long and light to dark brown, with whitish basal bands that cover one-half the length of hairs. Ventral pelage is slightly paler. Ears are short, rounded, and connected on forehead, which has medial ridge to nose. Most cranial measurements of Davison’s Mastiff Bat are slightly smaller than those of the Big Crested Mastiff Bat ( P. centralis ). Chromosomal complement has 2n = 48 and FN = 58.
Habitat. Desert, dry forest, humid forest, and agricultural areas from sea levelto elevations of ¢. 1320 m. Davison’s Mastiff Bats have been caught over a water reservoir.
Food and Feeding. In Peru, remains of moths ( Lepidoptera ) have been found in feces of Davison’s Mastiff Bat.
Breeding. A Davison’s Mastiff Bat was pregnant in February in Peru.
Activity patterns. Davison’s Mastiff Bats roost in roofs of buildings and rock crevices. Their remains have been found in pellets of common barn-owls (7yto alba).
Movements, Home range and Social organization. No information.
Status and Conservation. Classified as Data Deficient on The IUCN Red Lust.
