Map 13. Figure 31 View FIGURE 31 .
Baccha ida Curran, 1941 View in CoL .— Curran, 1941: 279. Type locality: Brasil, Santa Catarina, Nova Teutônia. Holotype male AMNH. Hull, 1949a: 156 (redescription), 194 (fig. 12, female abdomen; fig. 18 male abdomen), 262 (fig. 319, male wing), 274 (fig. 358, female wing).
Ocyptamus ida View in CoL . Thompson et al., 1976: 20 (catalog citation).
Baccha ida View in CoL var. idella Hull, 1949 .— Hull, 1949a: 159 (fig. 107, male abdomen). Type locality: Paraguay, Vilarica. Holotype male USNM (synonymised by Fluke 1956).
Male. Head: Black. Face pale on lateral ¼. Lunule pale above antennal insertion, central macula weakly connected to frontal triangle color by a diffuse brown median vita. Frontal triangle pale laterally until eye contiguity, with silvery-white pollen restricted laterally. Vertical triangle with 3 rows of pile, but most pile concentrated in a single median row; ocellar triangle separated by its length from posterior eye margin. Eye contiguity slightly shorter than vertical triangle length. Eye with sub-triangular indentation on posterior margin positioned at level of antenna insertion. Antennal insertions separated, division sometimes weakly sclerotized dorsally. Antenna black. Dorsal ¼ of occiput with 2 rows of simple black pile, anterior row shorter; middle ½ with 2–3 rows of pile, posterior row long, white and scale-like, anterior rows shorter, black and simple; ventral ¼ with 2–3 rows of white, scale-like pile, anterior rows slightly shorter.
Thorax: Scutum black, with white-pollinose weak pair of sub-median vittae and a median vitta; scutum mainly black pilose, except intermixed with white anterior to transverse suture, and pile longer on notopleuron; scutum anterior row of shining white pile with shorter pile in the middle. Scutellum dark brown, black pilose, subscutellar fringe pile long and white. Pleuron white pilose and dark brown, slightly lightened on posterior anepisternum and dorso-posterior portion of katepisternum. Plumula long and white. Calypter white. Halter yellow.
Wing: Basal ⅔ dark (cells bc, c, sc, r, basal ¾ of r1, basal ½ of r2+3, basal ½ of r4+5, bm, basal ⅔ of dm and cu p), entirely microtrichose; alula large, basally 1.8 times and apically 3.8 times as broad as c cell, hyaline, entirely microtrichose.
Legs: Proleg dark brown, apical ½ of profemur and basal ½ of protibia light brown. Mesoleg dark brown, apex of mesofemur light brown, basal ½ of mesotibia light brown to yellow. Metaleg dark brown, pale on apex of metafemur, base of metatibia and apical ⅓ of metabasitarsomere to 4th metatarsomere, 5th metatarsomere light brown, basal ½ of metafemur sometimes light brown.
Abdomen: Black; 3.2 times as long as thorax. First tergite with white pile ventro-laterally and dorsally, otherwise pile black. Second tergite long, length 2.9 times minimum width, with pale baso-lateral ⅔; 2nd tergite with subapical central triangular region of dull black pollen, and mostly black pilose, except white on basal ⅔, pile mostly appressed except long and erect laterally. Third tergite trapezoidal and long, length 2 times minimum width, and pale baso-lateral ⅔; 3rd tergite with large central triangular region of dull black pollen and pair of central, subapical, sub-shining vittae, and with short, appressed and black pile, except slightly longer and pale basolaterally. Fourth tergite sub-quadrate, longer than wide, remaining characteristics as on 3rd. Fifth tergite rectangular and wide, remaining characteristics as on 3rd. Genitalia: Cercus with 1–2 regular rows of pile on medial margin and 2–3 regular rows on lateral margin. Surstylus directed apicoventrally, with setulae (around 24) on apicoventral ½, pilose on ½ of the dorsal surface. Subepandrial sclerite with a pair of expanded postero-lateral lobes. Hypandrium with ventral notch extending to anterior ½. Phallapodeme weakly sclerotized posteriorly. Distiphallus smooth and anterior surface curved anteriorly on apex. Postgonite with pile mainly on ventral surface, ventral surface straight, dorsal surface straight; postgonite apex slightly convex anteriorly, with convex ventral extremity and acute dorsal extremity.
Female: Similar to male except: Frons pale laterally on ventral ½. Ocellar triangle ~2.5 times its length from posterior eye margin and ~1.5 ocelli-width from lateral eye margin. Antennal insertion might seem separated due to weak sclerotization of median division. Scutum pile much shorter. Scutellum pile shorter, subscutellar fringe pile normal. Legs lighter on pale regions. Mesotibia with almost basal ⅔ pale. Basal ⅔ to ¾ dark on cell dm. Second abdominal tergite with much shorter pile. Third abdominal tergite shorter. Fourth abdominal tergite rectangular and wide. Sixth segment conical normal, slightly shorter than its smallest width and 1.3 times as long as 5th. Genitalia: 7th tergite normal, basal extensions as long as the 6th segment; 7th segment lateral sclerite right triangle shaped, with acute basal extremities; 7th segment with bare central dorsal longitudinal membranous area. Eighth tergite central region sclerotized, apex 2-pronged, basal crest large, tergite lateral margin crenulated; 8th sternite reduced to a pair of rectangular sclerites. Cercus with 1 row of pile on apical margin.
Length. 11–14.5mm; wing 8–10mm.
