Map 10. Figure 15 View FIGURE 15. a – d (e–i).
Type locality. Costa Rica, Guanacaste, Eco Museo, Río Aguas Claras, 420m, 10°15'N 84°59'W. Holotype male INBio.
Male. Head: Black. Face slightly lightened on lateral ¼, usually with only a few black pile ventral to antennal insertion. Lunule pale above antennal insertion, central macula diffuse brown, not so distinct and weakly connected to frontal triangle color. Frontal triangle with silvery-white pollen continuous from face and restricted to lateral margin, brown-pollinose medially. Vertical triangle with 3 rows of pile, but most pile concentrated in a single median row; ocellar triangle ~1.5 times its length from posterior eye margin. Eye contiguity as long as vertical triangle length. Eye with sub-triangular indentation on posterior margin positioned slightly dorsal to antenna insertion. Antennal insertions confluent, ventral margin with short dorsal extension. Dorsal ¼ of occiput with posterior row of white scale-like pile and anterior row of shorter simple black pile, middle 2/4 with 3–4 rows of scale-like white pile, posterior row longer, anterior rows sometimes with a few simple black pile dorsally; ventral ¼ with 3 irregular rows of scale-like white pile.
Thorax: Scutum black, mainly dull pollinose, except notopleuron white-pollinose; scutum with long black pile, pile longer on notopleuron, with anterior uninterrupted row of scale-like white pile. Scutellum black, with long, black pile, subscutellar fringe pile long and white, sometimes with a few black pile laterally. Pleuron black; white pilose except black on dorso-posterior ½ of posterior anepisternum and anterior anepimeron, the pile is densely arranged on the posterior anepisternum. Plumula long and white. Calypter white. Halter stem brown, capitulum yellow.
Wing: Hyaline with anterior margin darker (cells bc, c and sc, diffusely dark on basal ½ of r1 and basal ⅔ of r), entirely microtrichose; alula large, basally 1.5 times to apically 3 times as broad as c cell, hyaline, entirely microtrichose.
Legs: Proleg brown, apex of profemur and base of protibia pale, basal ½ of protibia light brown. Mesoleg dark brown, apex of mesofemur and base of mesotibia pale, basal ½ of mesotibia light brown. Metaleg dark brown, with small pale area on base of metatibia, pale on apical 1/5 of metabasitarsomere to 3rd metatarsomere, 4th metatarsomere light brown, 5th metatarsomere brown; metacoxa pile white dorso-laterally.
Abdomen: Black; 2.4 times as long as thorax. First tergite mainly black pilose, pile white baso-ventrally. Second tergite rectangular, length 1.5 times minimum width, and with central triangular region of dull black pollen; 2nd tergite black pilose except white on base and baso-lateral ⅔, pile appressed except erect on base and laterally. Third tergite trapezoidal, length 1.2 times minimum width, with small pale area on baso-lateral corners, and with large central triangular region of dull black pollen; 3rd tergite with appressed and black pile, slightly longer, erect and white baso-laterally. Fourth tergite rectangular and wide, with central triangular region of dull black pollen with 3 small extensions basally, and with appressed and black pile, except white on baso-lateral ½. Fifth tergite rectangular and wide, with 3 central vittae of dull black pollen, and with appressed and black pile, except white laterally. Genitalia: Cercus with 1–2 irregular rows of pile on medial margin and 2 irregular rows on lateral margin. Surstylus sub-quadrate on lateral view, directed ventrally, with setulae (around 10) ventrally on apical corner, pilose on basal ⅔ of the dorsal surface. Subepandrial sclerite crescent shaped. Hypandrium with squared notch extending to anterior 3/5, with few pile ventro-apically. Basiphallus with posterior apex strongly curved posteriorly; Distiphallus with anterior surface straight. Phallapodeme widened medially. Postgonite narrow, ventral surface straight, dorsal surface straight; postgonite apex rounded, with acute subapical dorsal extremity.
Female: Female unknown.
Length. 6.5–9.5mm; wing 5–7mm.
Distribution. Costa Rica (Guanacaste, Puntarenas).
Primary type. Holotype: Male in good condition, with left proleg dissected and glued on a point pinned with the specimen. Genitalia dissected and placed in a plastic tube pinned with the specimen.
