Dacrysoma ravelosoni View in CoL sp. n.
(Figs. 10, 39, 44, 56, 65, 82, 83, 94)
Habitus Fig. 10. Length 0.94–0.96 mm. Colour dark brown; legs and antennae dusky yellow. Antennae very long, antennomeres 3–9 very narrow and parallel sided, Fig. 44 View FIGURES 41 – 55 . Pronotum Figs. 56 View FIGURES 56 – 61 , 65 View FIGURES 62 – 76 ; 0.24 mm long, 0.32 mm wide, lateral margins slightly angled. Elytra 0.63 mm long, 0.50 mm wide, foveae finer and denser than pronotum, tending to form longitudinal rows.
Male: aedeagus Fig. 94.
Female: micropterous/apterous. Spermatheca shows some variation in length, Figs. 82, 83 View FIGURES 77 – 89
Etymology. Named in honour of R. Raveloson who collected many of the specimens.
Remarks. The large size, long thin antennae, dark colour and presence of micropterous/apterous females, will quickly distinguish this species.
Differences in length of the spermatheca and tip of the aedeagus suggested that two species might be involved, but the presence of intermediate forms ultimately discouraged this view.
