Anas oxyura “Lichtenst View in CoL [ein]” Meyen, 1834a: 122.
Now: Anas georgica spinicauda (Vieillot, 1816) . See Hellmayr & Conover (1948a: 358).
Holotype: ZMB 13842 ( Lichtenstein 1832, Nr. 81 sub “ Anas ”), skin, collected by Meyen in “ Februar ” [= Feb 1831; Lichtenstein 1832] in “ Chile ” [= central Chile; see below].
Type locality. “ Chile ” according to Meyen (1834a: 122), who offered no details. Lichtenstein (1832) mentioned that the holotype was collected in February. In February 1831 the Prinzess Louise was anchored at Valparaíso ( Meyen 1834b; Berghaus 1842) and during that time Meyen visited the modern-day Chilean regions of Valparaíso and O’Higgins and the Metropolitan Region . The type locality thus probably lies in one of these regions.
Remarks. Meyen (1834a) did not indicate size of the type series, but Lichtenstein (1832) listed only one relevant specimen, which is thus the holotype.
