Type species: Trombicula kochiensis Sasa, Kawashima and Egashira, 1952 , by original designation.
Diagnosis. SIF = 7B(7BS)-B(N)-3-3(2)11(0)1.1(0)000; fCx = 1.1.(1–9); fSt = 2.2. Eyes 2 + 2. Scutum pentagonal, with angulate posterior margin. Sensilla flagelliform (lanceolate in M. benensoni ), branched (nude in M. attaliaensis sp. nov.).
Hosts. Mammals, rarely reptiles.
Distribution. Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, North America.
