Type species: Leptotrombidium galliardi Vercammen-Grandjean and Taufflieb, 1959 , by original designation.
Diagnosis. SIF = 7BS-B-3-2111.0000; fPp = B/N/N(B)B(N)B; fCx = 1.1.1; fSt = 2.2. Eyes 2 + 2. Scutum subrectangular. Sensilla flagelliform, branched.
Hosts. Mammals, reptiles, birds.
Distribution. Europe (up to 54° N), South and Middle Asia, Africa, North America.
Species included. More than 30 ( Kudryashova 1998).
Remarks. The name Ericotrombidium was proposed as nomen novum for Cotrombidium, as the last name was found to be an objective synonym of other chigger genus ( Vercammen-Grandjean & André 1966).
