Brunehaldia curtinae ( Kepka, 1966)

( Fig. 55)

Euschoengastia (Brunehaldia) curtinae Kepka, 1966: 53 , figs. 4, 5, 6a.

Euschoengastia (Brunehaldia) lucida Schluger, 1966: 213 , syn. nov.; Kudryashova 1979: 73.

Brunehaldia lucida, Kudryashova 1998: 293 , fig. 253.

Diagnosis. SIF = 7BS-B-3-2111.0000; fPp = B/B/BNB; fCx = 1.1.1; fSt = 2.2; fSc: PL> AL> AM; Ip = 733–765; fD = 2H-11-14-12-15-8-3; DS = 58–69; VS = 55–80; NDV = 118–149. Standard measurements of two specimens from Turkey (second specimen in parentheses): AW 72(66), PW 85(81), SB 31(31), ASB 29(28), PSB 14(14), SD 43(42), P-PL 23(24), AP 18(19), AM -(34), AL 45(47), PL 61(62), S 38(-), H 54(52), D min 32(34), D max 54(50), V min 27(-), V max 38(-), pa 265(261), pm 241(232), pp 259(259), Ip 765(752), DS 65(60), VS 55(58), NDV 120(118), TaIII 66(64).

Type material (not examined). Holotype of Euschoengastia curtinae was deposited in IZUG; type locality is Meryemana in Turkey (Trabzon Prov.) . Holotype of E. lucida was not designated, type material is lost. This species was described from an unknown locality in “Grozny Oblast” (province of Russia included parts of present Chechnya, Ingushetia, Stavropolskiy Krai , and Dagestan; abolished in 1957) .

Material from Turkey examined. Two larvae (ZISP) ex Apodemus (Sylvaemus) sp. (one specimen in theriological collection of ZISP, labelled as A. fulvipectus ), Erzurum Prov., 1.5 km N from Güzelyayla, 2300 m a.s.l., 16 June 1998, coll. AAS.

Hosts. Sorex raddei Satunin (type host) plus Calomyscus bailwardi Thomas , Cricetulus migratorius (Pallas) , Meriones tristrami Thomas , M. vinogradovi Heptner , Microtus socialis (Pallas) , M. arvalis (Pallas) , Mus musculus L., Apodemus agrarius (Pallas) , A. sylvaticus (L.), and Crocidura suaveolens (Pallas) ( Kudryashova 1998) .

Distribution. Turkey. This species is here recorded from Russia (“Grozny Oblast”, Dagestan), Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan for the first time. Previous record from Turkey: Meryemana.

Remarks. Unique combination of non-metric characters (fPp = B/B/BNB and fCx = 1.1.1), identical shape of scutum, and close values of most measurements clearly support the identity of B. lucida and B. curtinae . It should be noted, that some measurements in the original description of the latter (based on the single specimen) are probably erroneous. Thus, it is evident from the figure of the scutum, that 1) distance between sensillary bases is much larger than 14, 2) AP should be lesser than 32, contrary to the description, as it is evident from the comparison of this distance with AW and PW (64 and 77 according to the description), 3) PL setae are much longer than AL and AM; their length is almost the same as the distance between ALs (i.e., AW); so, length of PL cannot constitute 36, as in the description, and real formula of scutal setae is PL> AL> AM, but not PL = AL> AM, as in the description.
