Brunehaldia bulgarica ( Vercammen-Grandjean and Kolebinova, 1966)

( Fig. 54)

Euschoengastia (Brunehaldia) bulgarica Vercammen-Grandjean and Kolebinova, 1966: 436 , figs. 13–18; Daniel & Heneberg 1972: 138; Kolebinova 1992: 138, fig. 69.

Brunehaldia bulgarica, Imaz et al. 2006: 62 .

Euschoengastia (Brunehaldia) spalaxia (non Radford, 1957), Kepka 1966: 55, fig. 6b (misidentification).

Diagnosis. SIF = 7BS-B-3-2111.0000; fPp = B/B/BBB; fCx = 1.1.(3–5); fSt = 2.2; fSc: PL> AL> AM; Ip = 665–712; fD = 4H-8-(10–12)-(10–13)-(9–11)-6-2; DS = 51–61; VS = 47–64; NDV = 101–128. Standard measurements of specimens from Turkey are given in Table 27.

Type material (not examined). Holotype is deposited in ZISB; type locality is situated 5 km NW from Stara-

Zagora ( Bulgaria).

Material from Turkey examined. 10 larvae (ZISP) ex Mus musculus, Antalya Prov., 2 km E from Avlan Lake , 1295 m a.s.l., 24 April 2009, coll. AAS ; 6 larvae (ZISP) ex Apodemus witherbyi , ibidem, 1300 m a.s.l., 24 April 2009, coll. AAS; 3 larvae (ZISP) ex A. flavicollis , Antalya Prov., 7 km NE from Arif (Arikanda), 1364 m a.s.l., 28 April 2009, coll. AAS .

Hosts. Myodes glareolus (Schreber) , Microtus arvalis (Pallas) , Mus musculus L., Apodemus agrarius (Pallas) , A. flavicollis (Melchior) , A. mystacinus (Danford and Alston) , and A. sylvaticus (L.) plus A. witherbyi Thomas.

Distribution. Spain, France ( Corsica), Bulgaria, Macedonia, Kosovo. This species is here recorded from Turkey for the first time. Records in Turkey under the name Brunehaldia spalaxia: KemalpaŞa, Kavaklidere, Şile ( Kepka 1966) .

Remarks. According to figures and description, the material identified by Kepka (1966) as Euschoengastia (Brunehaldia) spalaxia ( Radford, 1957) is really B. bulgarica . This species clearly differs from B. spalaxia in smaller scutum (AW 51–64 vs. 73, PW 54–68 vs. 90, SB 21–28 vs. 33, SD 36–44 vs. 45, AP 12–17 vs. 20), twice shorter setae and sensilla (AM 18–26 vs. 66, AL 31–42 vs. 60, PL 38–50 vs. 86, S 23–33 vs. 43, H 36–48 vs. 73), shorter legs (Ip 669–712 vs. 889), and in more numerous idiosomal setae (NDV 101–128 vs. 82).
