scientific name

Waltheria indica L.
status

Waltheria indica Linnaeus , Species Plantarum 2: 673. 1753.

"Habitat in India." RCN: 4913.

Lectotype (Verdcourt in Dassanayake & al., Revised Handb. Fl. Ceylon 9: 418. 1995): Herb. Hermann 3: 5, No. 244 (BM-000621807) .

Current name: Waltheria indica L. ( Sterculiaceae ).

Note: St John (in Phytologia 33: 89-92. 1976) appeared to regard 852.3 (LINN) as the type but this sheet lacks the relevant Species Plantarum number (i.e. “2”) and was a post-1753 addition to the herbarium, and is not original material for the name. The same is true of 852.2 (LINN), treated as the type by Verdoorn (in Bothalia 13: 275 1981), but not linked by Linnaeus with this name, and not original material for it.
