Scytodes nambiobyrassu View in CoL new species
Figs. 74–79 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79
Type material. Holotype: male from Ribeirão Preto [21°10'30.5" S; 47°48'38" W], São Paulo, Brazil, January 2005, L. Garcia, deposited in IBSP 66447.
Paratypes: BRAZIL. São Paulo: same locality as holotype, 1Ƥ, January 2005, L. Garcia ( IBSP 66447); same locality as holotype, 1Ƥ, 2003–2005, E. Nascimento et al. ( IBSP 58165); Santa Rita do Passa Quatro (Parque Estadual Vassununga ) [21°43' S; 47°35' W], 1Ƥ, 19–24 March 2002, Equipe Biota ( IBSP 92317).
Etymology. The specific name is a noun in apposition taken from the Tupi Indian language that means “large pointed ear” and refers to the shape of the positioning ridges of the female epigynum more pointed than in S. nambiussu (nambi = ear; obyra = pointed; ussú = large).
Diagnosis. Scytodes nambiobyrassu n.sp. resembles S. nambiussu Rheims & Brescovit by the conformation of the tip of the male palpal bulb ( Figs. 75–77 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79 ; Rheims & Brescovit 2006: 306, figs. 44–45) and by the shape of the ridged positioning ridges in the female epigynum ( Fig. 78 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79 ; Rheims & Brescovit 2006: 306, figs. 46). They are distinguished by longer sclerotized process ( Fig. 76 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79 , hook in Rheims & Brescovit 2006), by the dorsally curved lamina ( Figs. 76–77 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79 ) and by the small prolateral hyaline keel in the male palp ( Fig. 75 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79 ) and by the smaller hyaline pockets and larger spermathecae on much wider stalks ( Fig. 79 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79 ).
Description. Male (Holotype, IBSP 66447) Carapace orange, medially lighter, with brown pattern as shown on Fig. 74 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79 . Chelicerae orange with dorsal longitudinal brown stripe. Pedipalps pale orange with prolateral brown margins. Labium pale yellow, brown at base. Endites pale yellow, distally cream colored. Sternum cream colored with brown markings in front of each coxae. Legs pale orange. Femur I–IV with pair of ventral, longitudinal brown stripes. Tibia I–IV with dark brown extremities. Abdomen very pale yellow with brown pattern ( Fig. 74 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79 ). Total length 5.3. Carapace slightly domed, 2.6 long, 2.2 wide. Eye diameters: PME 0.16, ALE 0.16, PLE 0.18. Lateral eyes on a tubercle. Chelicerae with subapical hyaline keel and six conspicuous stridulatory ridges. Labium 0.24 long, 0.32 wide. Sternum 1.3 long, 0.96 wide. Leg measurements: I: femur 6.8, patella 0.7, tibia 7.2, metatarsus 9.7, tarsus 0.8, total 25.2; II: 4.9, 0.7, 4.6, 5.7, 0.7, 16.6; III: 3.0, 0.6, 2.6, 3.4, 0.5, 10.1; IV: 4.9, 0.7, 4.4, 5.2, 0.7, 15.9. Palpal femur with stridulatory pick short and stout on rounded and projected socket. Cymbium with pair of strong distal spines ( Fig. 75 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79 ). Bulb 0.88 long, slightly curved medially. Distal region with prolateral hyaline keel ( Fig. 75 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79 ). Retrolaterally with a dorsally curved laminar projection, a dorsally pointed projection, an anteriorly pointed sclerotized process and a very slender, distally narrow hyaline keel ( Figs. 76–77 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79 ). Abdomen 2.7 long, 1.9 wide, covered with slender hairs.
Female (Paratype, IBSP 58165). Coloration pattern as in male. Total length 6.0. Carapace domed, 2.4 long, 2.2 wide. Eye diameters: PME 0.14, ALE 0.12, PLE 0.16. Lateral eyes on a tubercle. Chelicerae as in male. Labium 0.26 long, 0.30 wide. Sternum 1.3 long, 1.04 wide. Leg measurements: I: femur 3.9, patella 0.7, tibia 4.4, metatarsus 5.3, tarsus 0.8, total 15.1; II: 2.8, 0.7, 3.0, 3.6, 0.7, 10.6; III: 2.1, 0.5, 1.9, 2.3, 0.6, 7.4; IV: 3.1, 0.6, 3.0, 3.2, 0.8, 10.7. Palpal femur as in male. Epigynum with ridged positioning ridges extending anteriorly and separated from each other by little more than their width ( Fig. 78 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79 ).
