Jungermannia viticulosa Linnaeus , Species Plantarum 2: 1131. 1753.
"Habitat in Europae udis umbrosis sylvis." RCN: 8111.
Lectotype (Evans in Rhodora 7: 55. 1905): [icon] " Jungermannia terrestris, viticulis longis, foliis perexiguis, densissimis, ex rotunditate acuminatis" in Micheli, Nov. Pl. Gen.: 8, t. 5, f. 4. 1729. - Epitype (Grolle in Trans. Brit. Bryol. Soc. 5: 546. 1968): Italy. Tuscany, "Cotto di Maggio … inter Rosina et Stazema" [ Jungermannia Ordo 5, No. 3], Herb. Micheli ( FI) .
Current name: Saccogyna viticulosa (L.) Dumort. ( Geocalycaceae ).
Note: Grolle (1968) treated Micheli material in FI, which was not seen by Linnaeus, as the lectotype. However, as it is closely associated with the cited Micheli plate previously designated as the lectotype by Evans, Grolle’s statement is treated as correctable to epitype under Art. 9.8.
