Symplectoscyphus vanhoeffeni Totton, 1930
( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2. A – C X–Z)
Symplectoscyphus vanhoeffeni — Peña Cantero, Svoboda & Vervoort, 2002: 1556, fig. 15.
Material examined. Stn. SHO — 07.ii.2011, Ant.06/2011 (6 m): numerous fertile stems, up to 2.5 cm high (MHNG-INVE-79775); 19.ii.2011, Ant.01/2011 (6 m): a fragmentary colony composed of numerous stems, up to 1.5 cm high, a single broken gonotheca. Stn. ARD — 15.ii.2010, Ant.12/2010 (10–15 m): numerous sterile stems, up to 3 cm high, on seaweed.
Remarks. A redescription and a lengthy synonymy are given in Peña Cantero et al. (2002). The sterile sample Ant.12/2010 ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2. A – C Y) was compared to the fertile material Ant.06/2011 ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2. A – C X, Z) and proved morphologically identical.
Geographical distribution. Circum-Antarctic ( Peña Cantero et al. 2002).
