Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed on 1–3 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District; others photographed at St. KVG26 (off western Bauddisson Island) by Serge Andréfouët on 23 Aug. 2014; a video of a specimen taken off Nubilus Island , off southeastern New Hanover , at 3– 32 m depth, St. KR 88, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Christmas and Cocos-Keeling islands (eastern Indian Ocean) east to Line Islands and Pitcairn Group, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Solitary or in pairs, in coastal, lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 1–45 m depth. Marine.
