Scomberoides lysan (Forsskål in Niebuhr 1775) View in CoL —Double-spotted queenfish.
Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Kulineua River, New Hanover as Chorinemus sancti-petri by Munro (1958: 185); previously misidentified from Carteret Harbour, New Ireland as Chorinemus tolo (non Cuvier in Cuvier & Valenciennes, 1832) by Peters (1877: 836), and from Matalanaua, New Hanover as Chorinemus tala (non Cuvier in Cuvier & Valenciennes, 1832) by Munro (1958: 184). Specimens observed at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005 by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey, and by Barry C. Russell on 14 June 2014.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2, 3.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa east to Hawaiian Islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Exmouth Gulf (Western Australia), New South Wales ( Australia) at Sydney, New Caledonia, Tonga and Rapa. Adults found in clear lagoon and seaward coral reefs, juveniles inshore and in estuaries, 0–100 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
