Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District, 20 m depth, by Dean Tully on 26 June 2013; a video of a specimen taken off southern New Hanover at 3–47 m depth, St. KR 106, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Eastern Indonesia east to Caroline and Tuamotu islands, north to Philippines, south to Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Usually in pairs, hovering above sand bottom of steep seaward reef slopes, 9–105 m depth. Marine.
