Cephalopholis miniata (Forsskål in Niebuhr 1775) —Red coral grouper

Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Lihir Group , Namatamai District , New Ireland by Fry et al. (2006: 130). Specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005, and collected by Barry C. Russell on 21 June 2014. A specimen photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 12 Apr. 2007 .

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2, 5.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Madagascar and western Mascarenes east to Fiji and Tonga, north to Ogasawara Islands, south to Western Australia, Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Demersal in various coral reef habitats, 2–150 m depth. Marine.
