Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Vulnerable.
Discussion: Subgenus Artibeus . Closely related to hirsutus but apparently distinct; see Marques-Aguiar (1994). See Webster and Jones (1983).
