Redescription. Male. Integument light brown. Pubescence predominantly brown-yellowish dorsally except for light brown maculae, as follows: a round spot between superior lobes of eyes; two dorsal broad lines on each side of middle of pronotum; a longitudinal line on suture and on margins, sutural line connected anteriorly and posteriorly to a lateral line. Ventral surface and legs covered with scattered grayish pubescence.
Antennae reaching apices of elytra at distal apex of antennomere VI. Prothorax with regularly rounded lateral sides, without prominences. Pronotum with single transverse line of punctures near posterior margin. Elytra obliquely truncate, external angle projecting in acute spine. Punctures dense on basal two-thirds, mainly near suture. Metatarsomere I as long as II+III. Fifth urotergite rounded at apex; fifth urosternite truncate at distal tip.
Measurements (mm), male. Total length, 6.0; prothorax length, 1.0; prothorax width, 2.0; elytral length, 4.4; humeral width, 1.8.
Specimens examined. ECUADOR, Pichincha, 47 km S Santo Domingo (250 m), male, 17–25.XI.1979, L. Ling. col. (MNRJ).
Distribution. Nicaragua to Panama, Ecuador.
Comments. Bates (1872) described S. laetifica in Lepturges , and in 1881 listed it in Nyssodrys in the text and in Lepturges in the legend of the plate. Very similar to S. polytaenia , S. laetifica can be distinguished by the characters given in the key.
