Type Locality: Brazil, Bahia, San Francisco River.
Vernacular Names: Hairy-legged Vampire Bat.
Synonyms: Diphylla centralis Thomas 1903 .
Distribution: S Tamaulipas ( Mexico) to Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia, and E Brazil; a single vagrant individual has also been reported from S Texas ( USA).
Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (nt).
