Remarks.

This is the only species that was found in reasonable abundance during the census, as shown by the extensive list of records above. Yet, remarkably it was not reported in the previous surveys by either Easton (1991, 1992, 1993) or Pun and Batalha (1997), despite Macau representing the type locality of the original description of the species by Chevrolat (1845). In Macau, adults are active during the hottest part of the day from spring till early autumn and range in total length 11-16 mm and 2.5-4 mm in maximum width. They feed on a wide variety of flowers, including Acronychia pedunculata , Elaeocarpus sylvestris , Litsea glutinosa , Mallotus paniculatus , Paliurus spina-christi , Psychotria serpens , Dalbergia benthamii and Syzigium buxifolium (RP & LC pers. obs.). Hua (2002) reported as host plants for this species Acacia mearnsii , Bambusa textilis , Bauhinia variegata , Coffea sp., Cunninghamia lanceolata , Pinus sp. (branches), Populus sp. and Salix sp.
